About Stoke

Stoke is a free kitesurf, windsurf, wingfoil and surf app that alerts you the evening before your spot fires. What it does, where the data comes from and who is behind it.

What Stoke is

Stoke is a free, ad-free app for kitesurfing, windsurfing, wingfoiling and surfing. You follow your spots, set your own wind and direction limits and get a push the evening before a good day. It runs on iPhone, Apple Watch, Android and Wear OS, and this website shows the forecast, the wind right now and the stoke score for 155 spots in 8 countries.

Stoke score

The score combines wind, gusts, temperature and waves into one number from 0 to 100% against the limits you set. Above 70% is a stoke day, 40–70% can be fine, and below 40% is rarely worth the drive.

Where the data comes from

The forecast blends weather models from Open-Meteo (ECMWF, DMI Harmonie, MET Norway, ICON and GFS depending on the place) with a 10-day horizon. The wind right now comes from official weather stations run by DMI, KNMI, Meteotrentino and NOAA. Satellite imagery is Esri World Imagery.

The watch

Apple Watch and Wear OS log runs, top speed and distance during a session. Auto-start begins the session on your first run, and the Stoke watch face shows the stoke score and the sun's path over your spot.

Who is behind it

Stoke is built in Denmark as an independent project. The app is free, has no ads and only shares data with the services named in the privacy policy.
